Book to guide NGOs working for the minority community
In a novel initiative, a leading Muslim body on Saturday released a book to guide NGOs working for the minority community to run their programmes effectively with active aid from the government and other funding agencies.
The book, 'A Guide to Uplift Minorities', reflects procedures to take advantage of the existing government programmes for minority communities.
An initiative of the social service wing of Jamaat-e- Islami Hind, the book was released here by former Chief Justice of India A M Ahmadi.
"This is the first book that focuses on how to enable NGOs working for Muslims run their programmes effectively with active aid from the government and other funding agencies," Abdur Rasheed Agwan, one of the brains behind the initiative, said.
"In the backdrop of the Sachar committee report, which highlighted the poor social state of minorities, particularly Muslims, such a compilation was a glaring requirement," he added.
Detailing the contents of the book and how they were intended to help civil society groups, Agwan, who is one of the editors of the guide, said the book contains information on how to register and run an NGO.
Besides, it provides a list of national and international funding agencies and the priorities they have while sanctioning funds, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, ex-Chief Justice of India Ahmadi pointed out the need to take education to every section of the Muslim community, particularly women.
