Bombs intended to target security men recovered in Manipur
Two powerful bombs allegedly planted by insurgents to target security personnel in Imphal West district of Manipur have been seized.
A sniffer dog of Assam Rifles personnel of 27th battalion detected the bomb, weighing more than two kg and planted at the end of a culvert, while the paramilitary forces were patrolling Wabgai Leirak Achouba area, about 27 km south-east of here yesterday.
The bomb was later detonated at a nearby paddy field by experts, sources said, adding that the remote controlled device attached bomb was meant to attack the forces who frequently patrolled the insurgent-hit area.
In another incident, police forces detected another powerful bomb, planted at Koirengei, about 17 km north of here yesterday, the sources said adding that it was later defused.
Official sources said insurgents had planted at least seven bombs at roadside in different places to attack security personnel this month.
Police outposts have already been alerted to step up patrolling and checking of passers-by.
