MUMBAI: A bomb scare on Saturday evening at Vile Parle railway station on Mumbai’s suburban Western Railway line, which was hit by last week’s serial blasts, forced authorities to stop train services between Bandra and Andheri.

The cyber crime branch of Mumbai police received an anonymous call at 3.17 pm, saying that a bomb p lanted at Vile Parle station will explode at 5 pm. The station was vacated and passengers evacuated, said railway officials.

Long distance trains were also stopped. However, it turned out to be a hoax call. “Two bomb squads of Mumbai police scanned the station, but no suspicious material was found. It was a hoax,” a police official said later.

The police is trying to locate the caller. Since the serial blasts on the western line, security at the stations has been stepped up. Meanwhile, police said investigations into the Mumbai blasts were gaining momentum.
