Bomb scare at IBM, police conducts search
Police launched search operations at IBM's Bannerghata complex following an anonymous phone call threatening to plant a bomb in its premises.
"There has been a bomb scare at our Bannerghata office. A police squad is conducting a search to ascertain if any explosives have been planted," an IBM spokesperson said.
"All employees are safe," he said adding that the company was waiting for the police to find out if there were any security concerns or if it was simply a hoax.
Meanwhile, the company had taken all security measures to ensure that its employees are out of danger, he added.
The DCP (South East Division) S Mukherji said as per preliminary information received, a security guard received a call at around 11 AM from a person speaking fluent English, who said he would plant a bomb at the premises.
A police van on regular patrol was informed of the call at around 12.30 pm, he said.
"We still have to ascertain whether the call was a personal threat issued to the security guard or was directed at IBM," he said adding that a police team was conducting a search in the premises.
