Bomb-making unit raided

A bomb-making unit allegedly functioning at a farm house owned by a PMK leader has been raided and two persons were arrested, police said on Saturday.

MADURAI: A bomb-making unit allegedly functioning at a farm house owned by a PMK leader has been raided and two persons were arrested, police said on Saturday.

The raid was conducted at the farm house of PMK state deputy general secretary Ilanchezhian at Pappanamkulam, a village near Madurai, after police recieved an anonymous letter about a blast that took place there recently, they said.

According to the letter, two persons were seriously injured in the blast and they were undergoing treatment "secretly", police said.

When a police team led by A Ganesan, DSP, raided the farm house, they found two persons Periasamy (23) and Asaithambi (20) receiving treatment for burn injuries.

Both of them were arrested on Friday night and they confessed that they were injured while making country-bombs, police said.

Police seized "small quantities" of bomb-making chemicals, including red phosphorus, sulphur and pottassium chlorate from the farm house.

The Pattali Makkal Katchi leader and his brothers were absconding, police added.
