Boeing inks deal for Nagpur hub
European giant Airbus could set up its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Maharashtra following in the footsteps of its rival Boeing, union civil aviation minister Praful Patel said on Tuesday.
As reported by ET in its Tuesday’s edition, the US aircraft major Boeing signed an agreement with the state government to set up a $100m MRO facility at Nagpur. “The work on the project will begin within a couple of weeks,” said Dinesh Keskar, vice president, Boeing. The deal was a part of the firm’s commitments following the Rs 35,000-crore deal with Air-India.
“We had mandated Boeing to set up its MRO in India. Now I want Airbus too to have its facility in Maharashtra,” Mr Patel said. The government, like Boeing, has sought commitment from the European aircraft company as well, he said. The state has already cleared the international passenger and cargo hub project where Boeing’s MRO will be located.
