Ruling BJP’s estranged ally Bodoland People's Front (BPF) has decided to contest all the 12 seats in the Bodoland area in Assam in the upcoming assembly election.

In 2016, it won all the 12 seats in Bodoland.

The BPF has decided to contest the polls alone despite offers from the Congress-led opposition alliance and regional front of two parties.

On the other hand, the BJP will fight the polls in Bodoland area in alliance with new ally United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL).

The BPF’s Central Working Committee (CWC) met in Udalguri town on Thursday and asked party workers to fan out in the area to campaign for party candidates.

BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary said the party would once again regain its influence. He hinted that doors were open to potential allies except the BJP and its partners.

The BPF will soon start receiving applications for the tickets.

The BJP, together with UUPL, is ruling the sixth schedule council of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

Relations between the BJP and BPF, which has three ministers in the council of ministers in Assam, turned bitter and both parties fought the recently held elections to the sixth schedule council of BTC separately.

In 2006 and 2011, the BPF was part of the Congress-led government in Assam. It parted ways with the Congress in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

BPF leaders claim that its support ensured that the BJP won as many as 27 assembly seats in 2016 polls.
