NEW DELHI: After a brief lull, Songbijit faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland ( NDFB) militants on Tuesday massacred over 30 people and injured several others in a string of attacks in Assam. The death toll is likely to mount further as the anti-talk faction has targeted Adivasi areas. Within couple of hours on Tuesday evening, NDFB indiscriminately fired in five places.

Additional Director General of Assam police, Pallab Bhattacharya told ET, "Over 30 people have been killed in five incidents, three in Sonitpur and two in Kokrajhar districts. The killings have taken place in remote areas. The toll is likely to mount further." Security forces had recently launched operation against the militants and killed two NDFB cadres. Security forces have launched operation in and around the Manas National Park, a tourism hotspot in Assam.

Tourists were barred from entering the park on Tuesday. Tourists were moved out of park as security forces will launch operation to flush out militants taking shelter in the park.
