DAUSA: The bodies of 20 people killed in alleged police firing during the Gujjar agitation on May 24 were on Saturday cremated en masse at a funeral ground in Sikandara town of the district.

Congress MPs Sachin Pilot and Awatar Singh Bhadana were among several community leaders who attended the mass funeral and the pyres were mostly lit by relatives of the dead, District Collector Rajesh Yadav said.

He said six bodies were kept at Sikandara while 14 were shifted there from Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh hospital early this week.

The autopsies were conducted at the agitation site. The two Congress MPs earlier met the bereaved family members amid tight security with the agitating Gujjars demanding that they visit Sikandra town.

They had both sought prior written permission of the district collector and superintendent of police, an aide of Pilot who represents the Dausa Lok Sabha constituency, said.

They were asked to reach Dausa/Sikandra via Jaipur, not via Bandikui.
