Bobby Jindal no longer on Republican presidential radar: Analyst

Indian-American Governor of Louisiana Bobby Jindal is no longer in contention for a Republican presidential ticket in 2012.

WASHINGTON: Indian-American Governor of Louisiana Bobby Jindal is no longer in contention for a Republican presidential ticket in 2012, an eminent US political analyst has claimed.

"Bobby Jindal really killed himself last year with that very poor response," Allan Lichtman, Professor of Political History, American University, told foreign journalists here, referring to the Jindal's poorly rated Republican response to the address of the joint session of the US Congress by President Barack Obama, last year.

"He (Jindal) kind of went from a top five contender to perhaps a bottom 15 to 20 contender.

I don't think he's on the radar screen right now for the Republican presidential nomination," Lichtman said.

And kind of once that happens to you, once you kind of get branded that way, it's hard to have a second life in American politics, he said.

Although Richard Nixon did it, he added in response to a question.

On October 20, 2007, Jindal was elected governor of Louisiana, winning a four-way race with 54.2 per cent of the vote. At age 36, Jindal became the youngest current governor in the United States.
