BMTC introduces 9 new shuttle services
BENGALURU: City transport utility BMTC on Wednesday introduced nine new services, including two Volvo, from different areas to Electronic City to wean techies away from private transport. It will offer services in morning and evening peak hours and will increase the frequency depending on response.

The buses will ply to Electronic City from Jayadeva, Banashankari, Srinagar, Vijayanagar, BEML 5th Stage, Sumanahalli, Yeshwantpur and Basaveshwaranagar. Two Volvo routes will operate from Vijayanagar and Basaveshwaranagar. The new services follow a survey among Wipro staff at the IT firm's Electronic City campus. As many as 71 per cent employees surveyed said they were willing to switch to public transport if services were available. Wipro shared the findings with BMTC, and worked on the new services.

Some of the new services will use NICE road thereby cutting the travel time for commuters. "We will work with other IT companies as well, and introduce services based on demand. We will see the response, and are willing to introduce more Volvo services if people ask for them," BMTC managing director Ekroop Kaur told ET.
