The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, a national trade union affiliated to the RSS, has demanded a guaranteed pension under the National Pension System, on the lines of the Old Pension Scheme, in its meeting with the finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday.

“A high level delegation of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh led by Ravindra Himte, all-India general secretary of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), submitted a memorandum to the finance minister demanding guaranteed pension under NPS like Old Pension Scheme (OPS),” BMS said in a statement issued after the meeting.

“The present system does not provide any assured pension. So there is a demand to scrap the NPS and restore the Old Pension Scheme,” BMS said.

According to the statement, the finance minister has assured BMS that the government is considering employee issues seriously and wishes to take some positive steps.

The submission comes after BMS held a huge demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi in which thousands of employees belonging to defence, railways, postal, central government establishments, state government and local body participated demanding a guaranteed pension.

The nine members delegation included Sukhwinder Singh Dicky, vice president, BMS, B Surendran, organising secretary, Sadhu Singh, secretary general, Government Employees National Confederation (GENC), Dinesh Kumar Gautam, president, Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh, Vipan Kumar Dogra, president, Rashtriya Rajya Karmachari Sangh (RRKS), Mangesh Deshpande, general secretary, Bharatiya Railway Mazdoor Sangh, Anant Kumar Pal, general secretary, Bharatiya Postal Employees Federation and Deependra Chahar, general secretary, BMS Delhi.

The government had in April this year notified a committee to review the NPS for government employees as most non-BJP states have moved away from the NPS to the OPS.

Under the old pension scheme, employees get guaranteed return based on their last drawn salary while the new pension scheme offers market-linked returns that come with no guaranteed pension.
