BMC refrains from introducing new reservations in designation survey

MUMBAI: BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not introduced any new reservations in the designation survey that details various zoning undertaken for Development Plan 2034.

The civic authority has clarified that it has only proposed rectification of the errors in reservations earlier proposed in the plan in February.

BMC has invited observations from residents of the city on the designation survey to be integrated in Development Plan 2034. These suggestion and objections are expected to be sent to the civic body by November 30.

The civic body of the country's commercial capital has received an extension of the deadline for revision of the much-talked about Development Plan 2034 for the second time by another six months to February next.

The Development Plan 2034 was first announced in February only to be withdrawn in April after being criticized for errors with regard to wrong reservations applied to certain zones and plots.

BMC also referred as Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) is trying to ensure that this time all the reservations and zone designations are done in an error-free manner.

Earlier this year, the government had also acknowledged major errors in the plan including wrong reservations and zone designations and had asked the civic body to revise it. Given the existing concerns about lack of enough open spaces in the city, the development plan had proposed the development of areas which are in no-development zones, recreation zones and environmentally sensitive zones.
