Blast near Pakistan army headquarters, two dead
At least two people were killed and three wounded on Tuesday in a blast near President Pervez Musharraf's army headquarters in Rawalpindi, police said.
"We have shifted two dead and three wounded to hospital so far. We don't have any more details of the blast," police officer Mohammad Khaliq informed.
A security official, on condition of anonymity, said that the explosion had taken place on a route used by senior officials but had no further details.
Private television channels said that the area was completely cordoned off by security officials.
The attack comes less than two weeks after twin suicide attacks in Karachi killed 139 people during a procession to welcome former premier Benazir Bhutto home after eight years in exile.
Pakistan has suffered a string of attacks since the raid of the pro-Taliban Red Mosque in Islamabad in July, piling pressure on key US ally Musharraf as he struggles with a political crisis ahead of general elections set for January.
