Black money scheme has generated good response: CBDT

NEW DELHI: The government has said the black money scheme has generated good interest and the response of the taxpayers has been steadily growing even as the scheme draws to a close on the midnight of September 30.

"The last few days remaining for filing of declarations are expected to give good results," the Central Board of Direct Taxes ( CBDT) said in a statement on Thursday. There have been some reports that the scheme has not generated good response.

"The CBDT has so far refrained from issuing any statement regarding number of declarations received, amounts declared or taxes paid under the scheme in order to ensure complete confidentiality," the department said.

"The confidential handling of declarations...is of utmost importance to the I-T department and the CBDT is aware of its responsibility towards fulfilling this crucial role," it said.

The department said it will put out the details once the scheme closes on September 30.

CBDT has issued a number of clarification to clear all doubts about the scheme and has repeatedly said that declarations would be kept confidential.
