BKU to gherao parliament for paddy MSP hike

Bharatiya Kisan Union said it will gherao the Parliament in the first week of August to demand hike in the MSP of kharif crops.

MOGA: Led by the Union President Mohinder Singh Tikait, farmers from across the country would assemble outside the Parliament to press the Centre to hike MSP of paddy, cotton, pulses and oilseeds, Punjab State Unit of BKU (Lakhowal) President Ajmer Singh Lakhowal told reporters here.
The schedule for the protest would be decided by the union's state unit at its July 10 meeting.
He said that the gherao was also being planned against the Centre for "ignoring" the recommendations of various commissions to provide MSP as per price index.
He said the nominal hike of Rs 105 in the MSP of paddy to Rs 850 per quintal was not acceptable to farmers.
