BKU asks Centre to initiate dialogue with Gujjar leaders

Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Mahendra Singh Tikait today said he has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to initiate dialogue process with Gujjar leaders.

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Mahendra Singh Tikait today said that he has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to initiate dialogue process with Gujjar leaders as Rajasthan government has failed to resolve the crisis.

If the Centre does not intervene, the situation would be more critical in Rajasthan and in adjoining states, he told reporters at Sisauli village near here.

Tikait alleged that the Rajasthan government has failed to initiate dialogue with the Gujjar leaders to resolve the crisis.

Tikait said he would visit the affected areas of Rajasthan after two days.

Meanwhile, Gujjars blocked the Panipat-Khatima highway, disrupting the traffic and causing inconvenience to commuters. They have also burnt the effigies of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and raised slogans against her.

Lawyers, coming out in support of Gujjar agitation in Khatoli town, boycotted the courts today.
