BK Hariprasad set to win Rajya Sabha poll from Karnataka unopposed

BANGALORE: AICC General Secretary BKHariprasad appears to be all set to win the August 29 RajyaSabhabypoll from Karnataka.

He filed his nomination papers today, accompanied by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G Parameshwara.

The election is from the State Assembly, where the Congress enjoys a comfortable majority, facilitating a smooth sailing for Hariprasad.

With numbers loaded against them, the opposition JDS and the BJP chose not to field their nominees for the bypoll, necessitated by the resignation of Anil Lad (Congress), who quit after being elected to the State Assembly from Bellary in May.

Legislative Assembly Secretary and Returning Officer P Omprakasha said social activist Abraham TJ has also filed his papers.

But sources said Abraham's nomination would be rejected during scrutiny as it's not supported by requisite number of MLAs.
