NEW DELHI: The BJP is organising ‘Adivasi Astitva Garjana’, a gathering aimed at rallying tribal people from across the country, at Delhi’s Ramlila Ground on December 9. It will see participation of tribals from several states such as Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar and Jharkhand.

It will focus on the rights of tribals and how the BJP is working towards empowering the section of population which is among the most deprived, said party members. The timing of the rally is significant as assembly polls are on in Jharkhand, a state with 26% tribal population.

The programme is being organised by Soyam Bapu Rao, BJP MP and president of the Adivasi Hakkula Porata Samithi, Telangana.

The rally will be attended by the BJP’s national working president JP Nadda and Union tribal affairs minister Arjun Munda, along with 41 tribal MPs from the party.

“In my state Telangana, the TRS government had promised to implement the Forest Rights Act within six months of getting the second term and it got votes. But it has now forgotten to protect the rights of tribals,” Rao told ET.

“Therefore, we have requested the Adivasis who supported the movement for a separate Telangana to come to Delhi on December 9 to fight for their rights.” Rao said that tribals from across the country will raise issues of land pattas (record of rights) in their states and protection of jal (water), jungle and zameen (land) of tribals.
