BJP's CM candidate in Assam Sarbananda Sonowal confident of exit polls'prediction

GUWAHATI: Buoyed by exit polls predicting debut of BJP in Assam, BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal said that BJP together with allies will achieve its mission, which is over 84 seats.

In the run up to the polls, BJP has been downplaying mission 84 seats. Even prime minister Narendra Modi in several rallies in Assam urged the voters to give decisive mandate.

Modi, in one of the rallies before the second phase of polls, said, “World leaders have seen how during last Lok Sabha polls in 2014, people in India have given decisive mandate and installed a full majority government in New Delhi almost after 30 years. In Assam too, I urge you to give decisive verdict in favour of BJP and its allies.”

The prime minister said: “After first phase of polls, some people are anticipating hung assembly. For 10 years people have seen the result of a remote-controlled government. If you want the whole country and world to know Assam, give massive mandate.”

BJP formulated mission 84 seats soon after its impressive victory in Lok Sabha polls in Assam in 2014 where the Saffron party won seven out of 14 seats. Sonowal said, “The exit polls are reflection of the people’s wish.

People have voted for change and we will realise our agenda of 84 seats.” Sonowal added: “Together with allies, we will work as a team.” Congress has rubbished the exit poll and stated exit polls were proved wrong in Bihar and Delhi assembly polls.

Senior Spokesperson of Assam Pradesh congress committee, Apruba Bhattacharya said: “The exit polls are baseless and those do not have any truth. This is a ploy by BJP to create pressure on those official engaged in the election process.”
