The BJP MLA from Bishnupur, Tanmay Ghosh, rejoined the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Monday, five months after defecting to the BJP ahead of the assembly polls.

The development came a day after Somen Mitra’s widow, Sikha Mitra, joined the AITC.

“The BJP’s vindictive and revengeful politics is affecting the people here and BJP is intruding into people’s rights. I am joining Trinamool Congress to protest against it,” said Ghosh. “I will urge all public representatives, from panchayat level to MLAs and MPs, that they should support Bengal CM for holistic development of Bengal.”

Ghosh said that the BJP did not have any booth level network in the state. He said the BJP’s candidates who won due to their own abilities and that the party’s central leaders tried to control everything.

State education minister Bratya Basu said, “Ghosh is joining the Trinamool Congress as he is not happy with BJP.”

BJP state president Dilip Ghosh, however, said the AITC was intimidating Tanmay Ghosh.
