Tensions escalated in Mumbai on Thursday as members of the Bharatiya Janata Party 's Yuva Morcha vandalized the Congress party’s city office in Dadar. The incident led to clashes between protesters and law enforcement officers, leading the police to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.

The saffron party youth wing members were protesting against the Congress, alleging that the Congress has insulted Baba Saheb Ambedkar.

The BJP intensified its criticism of the Congress over its treatment of Dr. BR Ambedkar, with party president JP Nadda accusing the opposition of “lying” about the issue. The union minister, in a series of posts on X, echoed the BJP’s allegations that Congress had repeatedly insulted and ignored Ambedkar and his legacy.

He also pointed to the steps taken by the Modi government to honour the architect of the Indian Constitution, emphasising the BJP’s commitment to preserving Ambedkar’s memory.

On the other hand, Opposition parties staged a protest at Vidhan Bhawan in Nagpur, condemning Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Leaders from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, wearing blue caps and stoles, marched from Samvidhan Chowk to Vidhan Bhawan, raising slogans like “Babasaheb ka apman nahi sahega Hindustan” (India will not tolerate the insult of Babasaheb).

The protests were sparked by Shah’s comments, which opposition leaders claim disrespected Ambedkar’s legacy. Meanwhile, in the Lok Sabha, opposition members disrupted proceedings, demanding an apology from Shah, forcing the House to adjourn for the day.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also submitted a privilege notice in the Rajya Sabha against the Home Minister, accusing him of insulting Dr. Ambedkar and breaching parliamentary privilege. Kharge called for action under Rule 188, stating Shah’s remarks were offensive and contemptuous.

The protests reflect rising political tensions, with opposition parties vowing to continue demonstrations unless Shah apologizes for his comments.
