BJP won't get political mileage from Ayodhya verdict: Digvijay
BHOPAL: The possibility of BJP deriving any political advantage from the Ayodhya judgment was bleak, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh said today.

"It would be an illusion to believe that the BJP can derive any political advantage from yesterday's verdict," Singh told PTI.

Allahabad High Court yesterday ruled that the 2.77 acre disputed land in Ayodhya be divided into three parts among Hindus and Muslims and held that the place where the makeshift temple of Lord Rama currently exists belongs to Hindus.

The Congress leader said his party had always believed that any settlement on the Ayodhya issue can be arrived at only through negotiations between the two parties and if this was not possible, then the court verdict must be honoured.

He said yesterday's verdict was neither a victory nor a defeat for any of the contesting parties and added that the decision should be honoured by one and all.

Singh said the nation has moved a lot ahead since December 1992 when riots had broken in several parts of the country following demolition of the Babri Masjid at Ayodhya.

"I do not think anyone now wants riots in the country," he added.
