This is the second team coming to Bengal, after the BJP Fact-Finding team-led by former Union Minister Ravishankar Prasad.
“The way people have been stopped from participating in the three tier Panchayat system in Bengal, the way people were tortured and women have been targets of attack, we are here to talk to people and visit them,” Soraj Pandey, Convenor of the Women MP team, said.
“After killing democracy in Bengal, Mamata Banerjee is also participating in the Bengaluru meeting and they are talking about democracy. Being a woman Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee should answer this,” Pandey said.
“People have won in Panchayat polls but they have not been allowed to win. The way women were tortured and people faced atrocities for participating in polls, the incidents could be witnessed here and there-we are visiting these places,” she said.
The five member MP team consists of MPs Soraj Pandey (Convenor), Rama Devi, Aparajita Sarangi, Kavita Patidar and Sandhya Ray. After returning from Deganga and Baruipur, the team members will meet victims in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, Calcutta High Court Chief Justice T S Sivangnanam expressed his disgust over too many Panchayat related cases for the last few weeks.
