BJP wins Keshkal assembly bypoll
Ruling BJP on Thursday won the Keshkal Assembly bypoll in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh by a margin of over 21,800 votes, election office sources said.
Sewakram Netam of BJP won the by-poll by a margin of 21,880 votes defeating his nearest rival Budhson Markam of Congress, where as all the three independent candidates lost their deposits, sources told PTI by phone from Jagdalpur.
Netam secured 58,362 votes while Markam got 36,476 votes. The independents, Sonu Ram Naik got 7,307 votes, while Nohruram Sorig and Mahesh Thakur polled 3,899 votes and 3,114 votes respectively, sources said.
The bypolls for the Naxal-hit assembly segment, held on February 4, were necessitated after BJP MLA from Keshkal and parliamentary secretary Mahesh Baghel died in a road accident recently.
