BJP will return to power in Manipur, says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday exuded confidence that BJP will return to power in Manipur in the assembly polls slated for early next year.

Shah said the BJP-led government has restored peace in the state which had witnessed terrorism for several years. Prior to N Biren Singh taking over as the chief minister, he said, Manipur witnessed bandhs, blockade.

“Development in the state will further intensify once the BJP-led government comes to power for a second consecutive term,” he said.


Shah laid the foundation stone for setting up the Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Luangkao village in Manipur's Tamenglong district virtually from Delhi. He said the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs has sanctioned around Rs 15 crore for the tribal Museum project.

“A sports university is coming up in the state. Prime minister Narendra Modi will soon inaugurate a new assembly building,” he said.

Shah said the Centre renamed the Andaman and Nicobar Islands' 'Mount Harriet', where Manipur's Maharaja Kulchandra Dhwaj Singh and 22 other freedom fighters were imprisoned, as 'Mount Manipur' in their honour.

He said Manipur had a significant contribution in resisting the British in the entire northeast region during the 1857 revolution, and also in 1891.
