BJP in Meghalaya has been part of a six party-led coalition government. Sarma in New Delhi on Thursday said, "BJP will go solo in Meghalaya."
The party is likely to contest all the 60 seats. The state is going to assembly polls on February 27. Already the National People's Party (NPP) which is leading the six party coalition has announced a list of 58 candidates for the upcoming election in the State of Meghalaya. The NPP had earlier decided to contest the polls on its own. BJP Meghalaya president Ernest Mawrie said that the party is ready to contest the polls and has built robust organisations across the state. BJP had earlier threatened to withdraw support from the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government. Meghalaya is a Christian-dominated state. BJP had won two seats in the 2018 polls. It had contested 47 seats in the 60-member assembly. Around 18 Meghalaya MLAs have resigned from the House and their respective parties.
