BJP will back government on key reform bills: Yashwant Sinha

Yashwant Sinha said his party was willing to back the government on key economic bills, but it was the government which needs to put its house in order.

NEW DELHI: In what should come as a big relief to the Manmohan Singh government, senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said his party was willing to back the government on key economic bills, but it was the government which needs to put its house in order.

“The finance minister has talked to our party and we said most of these (bills) are from our time. So we will support, but you (government) need to put your house in order,’’ he said at a meet organised by a merchant chamber on Tuesday.

Sinha, who heads the standing committee on finance, said: “On all these bills and any future bills, BJP will be ready to extend support to the government with some minor adjustments here and there. There will be no act on our part to stop legislation, provided we work in a truly bipartisan spirit.”

The government has not been able to push key economic reforms, including retail FDI, insurance and the PFRDA bills because of opposition from the Trinamool Congress.
