NEW DELHI: As the alliance between the Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party takes shape in Uttar Pradesh, the BSP has expressed full support to SP president Akhilesh Yadav at a time when the Central Bureau of Investigation is conducting raids as part of a probe into illegal mining cases pertaining to his tenure as chief minister.

BJP leaders are accusing Yadav of having supported the mining mafia in the state.BSP chief Mayawati made a phone call to Yadav on Sunday and expressed her party’s support, terming the CBI raids an attempt by the BJP to target political opponents. She told him that both the BSP and SP stood together in fighting the misuse of constitutional authorities by the BJP for political gains.

“The day media reported about the meeting of senior leadership of the both parties, the BJP government started conducting raids in pending mining cases and BJP leaders deliberately accused Akhilesh Yadav as a part of political conspiracy,” said a press note issued by the BSP. “The BSP movement has also been a victim of such conspiracy by the BJP in the past and there is nothing new in this.”
