BJP, too, slams Jaya for anti-Marathi remark
MNS chief Raj Thackeray on Wednesday received support from unexpected quarters as the BJP joined him in criticising actress Jaya Bachchan for her 'anti-Marathi' remark.
"Jaya Bachchan should not insult Marathi in Maharashtra," BJP General Secretary Gopinath Munde said while speaking at a Press conference here. "She can have pride for the Hindi language but there is no reason to speak about Marathi in this manner."
The actress-MP, who attended a function on Saturday to promote her film 'Drona,' had said, "Hum UP ke log hai, hume Hindi mein baat karni chahiye (we are from Uttar Pradesh and should speak in Hindi)."
Taking a strong objection to Jaya's remarks, Thackeray had declared a 'ban' on films involving the Bachchan family till she tendered an unconditional apology.
Jaya offered her apology in a Mumbai daily yesterday, saying that she had no intention to hurt the sentiments of the Marathi people.
