GUWAHATI: In the 60 assembly constituencies of Tripura, the BJP on December 27 will organise 60 rallies, kick-starting the campaign for 2018 assembly polls in the Left-front ruled state. Tripura is going to the polls early next year and the BJP has lined up rallies across the state to be attended by ministers, MPs, MLAs and office-bearers from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.

The BJP is ruling in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh while Manipur has a BJP-led government.

Sunil Deodhar, BJP’s Tripura in charge, told ET, “On December 27, we’ll start campaign for the polls.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath will campaign in the Tripura polls.

The BJP has lined up rallies by central ministers in the first week of January. “We are trying for a rally either by Prime minister or Amitbhai or Yogiji in the first week of January,” Deodhar said.

The BJP is working to have at least one rally by the PM before the poll code of conduct is imposed in the state.

“There are 35% OBC voters in the state, of which 90% belong to the Nath and Debnath communities and are followers of Gorakhnath. Yogi is a disciple to Gorakhnath,” a senior BJP leader said.
