BJP to narrate its bad dream to voters
The BJP is set to withdraw support to the H D Kumaraswamy government in Karnataka. It seems the state is headed for snap polls after a spell of President’s rule.
Notwithstanding former prime minister H D Deve Gowda’s last-ditch effort to persuade the saffron leadership to allow his son to continue on the chief minister’s chair, the BJP, irked by the father-son duo’s refusal to adhere to the coalition dharma, has made up its mind to pull the rug, and gear up for early assembly polls.
Mr Gowda met BJP president Rajnath Singh at industrialist Rajiv Chandrasekar’s house at North Avenue late on Friday night. Mr Gowda, it is learnt, told the BJP president that his party was not willing to hand over power to the BJP. The saffron party is likely to go public with its decision to terminate its relationship with the JD(S).
Mr Kumaraswamy is unlikely to be bailed out by the Congress. The latter, it is learnt, wants the governor to hold the floor test earlier than that. An overwhelming majority of the state Congress is said to be against reviving ties with the JD(S), though a final call on the subject has to be taken by Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The BJP is also planning to go all out to capitalise on the JD(S) “conspiracy” to deny the CM’s chair to its nominee B S Yediyurappa, who is a Lingayat.
The Lingayats constitute 18% of the voters, and the BJP is hoping that the community members would rally behind the party.
