BJP to meet President Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Malda violence

NEW DELHI: Sensing a political opportunity with Assembly elections just a few months away, BJP has decided to keep the Malda violence issue alive in the coming weeks to corner the Mamta Banerjee-led TMC government.

BJP Chief Amit Shah had dispatched a three-member fact-finding team comprising of MPs SS Ahluwalia, Bhupendra Yadav and DD Ram to Malda but it was not allowed to visit the violence-affected parts of the district and sent back from the railway station. The three leaders, along with other BJP members, will now be meeting Home Minister Rajnath Singh to demand an inquiry and later President Pranab Mukherjee to apprise him of the incident and the TMC government’s alleged complicity in the matter.

BJP national secretary in-charge of West Bengal, Siddarth Nath Singh posed five questions to the Mamta Banerjee government. The party’s contention is that this incident is being given a communal colour by the TMC for political gains. “Is it not true that there is large-scale trading of fake currency notes in Malda? Is it not that fake note smugglers arrested by NIA had links with Malda? NIA had held a plan with the state home secretary to bust this module.
