BJP to file PIL on Chidambaram's role in 2G scam

BJP has decided to file a PIL in SC seeking a direction to CBI to bring home minister P Chidambaram within the purview of the agency's probe into the 2G scam.

NEW DELHI: BJP has decided to file a PIL in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to CBI to bring home minister P Chidambaram within the purview of the agency's probe into the 2G spectrum case.

Party chief Nitin Gadkari said the party would shortly move the bench of Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly who have been monitoring the CBI probe into the mega scam. "We have papers which show that Chidambaram signed along with A Raja in the fraudulent allocation of licence and spectrum. We have papers with us carrying his signatures which show that he concurred with Raja at least on 10 occasions," the BJP chief told TOI, justifying the party's move to try to get the CBI look into Chidambaram's "role" in the scam.

Chidambaram was finance minister in 2007 when Raja allocated licences and spectrum.

"Moreover, we have Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on record saying that finance ministry was a party to the decisions taken by the telecom ministry under Raja. We are going to bring this along with the relevant documents to CBI's notice," Gadkari said, recalling the statement PM made in an interaction with journalists.

The move comes at a time when BJP's confrontation with government has intensified, with Chidambaram talking tough. On Wednesday, Chidambaram had accused the Sangh Parivar of using Baba Ramdev as its proxy against the government.
