BJP to corner UPA over Baalu, revive tainted ministers issue

BJP decided to further corner the government on the T R Baalu controversy and to revive the issue of tainted ministers in the run up to a series of assembly elections.

NEW DELHI: BJP on Tuesday decided to further corner the government on the T R Baalu controversy and to revive the issue of tainted ministers in the run up to a series of assembly elections.

In a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary party held here, the party's Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani addressed the lawmakers on the issue.

"It is a government of tainted ministers. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh needs to come clear on the issue and DMK Minister T R Baalu should resign," party leader V K Malhotra told reporters quoting Advani.

The tainted minister issue was infact one of the first to be taken up by the BJP-led NDA after the UPA came to power in the Centre in 2004.

Union Shipping and Transport Minister T R Baalu had admitted on April 23 that he had "put in a word" with Petroleum Ministry to allow supply of gas to companies owned by his sons.
