"I strongly deplore Congress Minister Zameer Ahmed calling Union Minister & Ex CM of Karnataka Sh. Kumaraswamy as 'Kaalia Kumaraswamy'. This is a racist remark, same as Rahul Gandhi's adviser calling South Indians look like Africans, North East as Chinese, North Indians as Arabs," said Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla in reaction said "Congress minister Zameer Ahmad calls HD Kumaraswamy as “Kaliya” ((blackie / negro )) This is Nafrat ki dukan First congress divided on caste and now on race like Sam Pitroda did Sam was given promotion by Rahul for calling South Indians as Africans and now Rahul will promote Zameer too?"
The comment comes after Congress was earlier embroiled in a controversy after Congress leader Sam Pitroda made a racist remark. In a podcast, Pitroda, remarked, "Over the past 75 years, we have thrived in a harmonious environment where people coexisted peacefully, despite occasional disagreements."
"We could hold the country as diverse as India together. Where people in the east look like the Chinese, people in the west look like the Arabs, people in the north look like, maybe, white and people in the south look like Africans. It does not matter. All of us are brothers and sisters. We respect different languages, different religions, different customs, different food," Pitroda said in the interview that was widely circulated on social media.
