BJP targets Bhardwaj once again

BJP has renewed its demand for removal of Karnataka governor H R Bhardwaj, two days after the high court upheld the assembly Speaker’s decision to disqualify 11 rebel BJP MLAs.

NEW DELHI: BJP has renewed its demand for removal of Karnataka governor H R Bhardwaj, two days after the high court upheld the assembly Speaker’s decision to disqualify 11 rebel BJP MLAs.

Mr Bhardwaj had recommended President’s rule in Karnataka after chief minister B S Yeddyurappa won a controversial vote of confidence. However, he soon changed his position and asked the chief minister to take a second trust vote.

“After the landmark judgement of the Karnataka high court upholding the Speaker’s decision, the governor should have submitted his resignation and left the state, which he did not do,” BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said here.

Recalling the meeting of a BJP delegation led by Mr L K Advani with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh earlier this month, he said Mr Manmohan Singh had assured the party that the Centre was in no way involved in the episode.
