On Thursday, the BJP appointed Returning Officers for the election of state presidents in 29 states. The list includes 11 Union ministers and three ministers of state as election in-charges. Additionally, five BJP national general secretaries have been assigned responsibilities, reflecting the party's focus on ensuring robust management of election processes across states.
Union minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed as the election officer for UP, where the party will replace its current president Bhupendra Choudhary. Union minister Manohar Lal has been appointed as the election in-charge for Bihar, a state which is going for elections later this year. Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan will look after the election of new president in Madhya Pradesh.
Similarly, Union minister Bhupender Yadav will oversee the election process in Gujarat. In Karnataka, Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will look after the election process of the new state president. The party had appointed BY Vijayendra as the state president in November 2023. BJP general secretary Sunil Bansal has been given the responsibility of successfully executing the election of the new state president in Goa.
BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde has been entrusted with the responsibility of handling the election of state president in Chhattisgarh while Union minister Kishan Reddy will oversee the elections in Tamil Nadu. K Annamalai is the current state president in Tamil Nadu.
Party sources tell ET that this will be the step before elections for the new president of the BJP. Once the party elects state presidents, they will participate in the election of the national president. As per the party sources, the entire process will be completed by the last week of January.
