BJP state chief demands white paper from govt on farm loans

State BJP president Nitin Gadkari dubbed the CAG report pulling up the state government on farmers issue as "a slap on the Democratic Front government" and demanded white paper on farm loans.

MUMBAI: State BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Saturday dubbed the CAG report pulling up the state government on farmers issue as "a slap on the Democratic Front government" and demanded white paper on farm loans.

"The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report is a slap on the Congress-NCP Democratic Front Government. When Prime Minister's package was declared at that time, it was not the farmers who were benefited by the package but the banks owned by the NCP members," he said.

The money was mainly meant to revive the banks which were on the verge of collapse. Now, the CAG in its report has also flayed the government for it, he added.

Gadkari said the Democratic Front government should bring out a white paper on the distribution of state loans and how they utilised it.

The CAG report which was tabled in the state Assembly yesterday had flayed the government and said only 40 per cent farmers were aware of Central and State relief packages.
