Srinagar: BJP has sent a ₹100 crore defamation notice to Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah over his allegation that BJP was trying to engineer a split in his National Conference party.

Abdullah in response to the notice said he felt honoured to have received a "love letter" in the form of a legal notice from BJP as it proved that he was a political force they could not ignore.

Last week, Abdullah, while addressing a workers' convention in Srinagar, alleged that a senior BJP office-bearer had offered ₹20-30 crore and a ministerial berth to one of the NC MLAs in Jammu to switch sides.

In the legal notice sent on Monday, the J&K unit of BJP termed Abdullah's allegations "false, baseless and defamatory". The party demanded an unconditional public apology within seven days.
