BJP seeks ban on policy announcements till conclusion of polls
DEHRADUN: Opposition BJP in Uttarakhand today lodged a complaint with the SEC, accusing the Vijay Bahuguna government of violating the model code of conduct and sought a ban on policy announcements till the conclusion of civic body polls slated for April 28.

A party delegation led by its state unit president Tirath Singh today met Chief Election Commissioner (local bodies) Harish Joshi and handed over a memorandum to him in which they accused the ruling Congress of "flouting" the MCC before the civic polls.

They stated in the complaint that the government are making certain announcements which had the potential to tilt the scales in its favour and influence the poll verdict.

Rawat alleged that the state government had asked small retailers to provide 10 kgs of wheat to every consumer which was a "gross violation" of the model code of conduct.
