BJP, RSS blame National Conference, Congress for Jammu and Kashmir violence

SRINAGAR: BJP and RSS have directly blamed opposition National Conference and Congress for the violence in Jammu and Kashmir. They claimed that it was being done to destabilise the state government and grab power.

After a detailed meeting in Doda district of Jammu, which concluded on Sunday evening, BJP said violence was not the way forward in the Kashmir Valley. Some of the BJP leaders who attended the meeting stated there was no threat to the alliance with PDP and PM Modi was fully backing chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.

State party spokesman Khalid Jehangir told ET: “Some of the opposition parties have embodied the role of separatists and are fanning trouble in Kashmir. All regions of the state should be given due share and violence has no space in any democratic society. BJP is ready to talk to all those who believe in our democracy.”

A senior RSS functionary, who requested anonymity, said: “Kashmir is an internal issue and talking to Pakistan won’t yield any results. There are issues which can be resolved by talking to the people of Kashmir.”

There should not be any compromise with the troublemakers and the government should stop pampering Hurriyat leaders, another RSS functionary said. “Army is exercising maximum restraint in Kashmir. We cannot expect them not to react to the trouble,” said an RSS leader in Jammu.

“Many people have taken a wrong path in Kashmir, but they are still a minority. We have to counsel them and create job opportunities,” said RSS’ Suchet Singh.
