NEW DELHI: BJP's request to rename the Aurangzeb Road in central Delhi was turned down by the NDMC in light of the guidelines of the Home Ministry, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said the New Delhi Municipal Council had received a letter on October 14, 2014 from Delhi BJP requesting to change the name of Aurangzeb Road, located in the heart of the city, to Guru Gobind Singh Road.

The municipal body received another correspondence from Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) in this regard.

"The name of the said road was not changed by the NDMC in light of the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs," the minister said in a reply to a written question.

He, however, did not specify the guidelines under which the demands were shot down.
