BJP ended BJD's 24 year rule in Odisha
Preparations are underway in Bhubaneshwar for the swearing in of the first BJP government in Odisha, likely on Monday evening.

In the recently held Assembly polls in the state, the BJP won 78 of the 147 seats, ending the BJD's 24-year rule.

The party has decided to hold the ceremony at the Janta Maidan in Bhubaneshwar.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior BJP leaders and chief ministers of different states are expected to be present for the swearing in ceremony.

The party, however, is yet to decide who will be the chief minister. A legislative party meeting to elect the new chief minister is set to be held in the morning of June 10.

"A decision will be taken by the central leadership of the party. We are all very elated with the fact that we will form the government in the state," Suresh Pujari, senior Odisha BJP leader, told ET. "Whatever decision is being taken by the top leadership will be acceptable to all..."

Two observers appointed by BJP president JP Nadda will reach Bhubaneshwar early on Monday to oversee the legislative party meeting.
