BJP pursuing 'politics of opportunism': AAP
NEW DELHI: Targeting BJP in the debate over nationalism, AAP today questioned the saffron party's tie-up with PDP in Jammu and Kashmir and accused it of engaging in the "politics of opportunism".

At a panel discussion organised here by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), AAP leader Ashutosh wondered whether PDP has changed its position on Afzal Guru and sought an explanation from BJP in this regard as he claimed that the Mehbooba Mufti-led party terms the Parliament attack convict a "martyr".

"The fact is BJP cannot be selective (on nationalism). Today, they are forming the government in J-K with PDP. PDP has been saying Afzal Guru is a martyr. He is a victim. So, BJP should explain whether PDP has changed its position on Guru?" he said.

Claiming that PDP has not changed its position on Guru's hanging, Ashutosh accused BJP of "pursuing the politics of opportunism".

"When you are with PDP, you are a nationalist. When we talk about it, we are anti-nationalist. The fact is that you are pursuing the politics of opportunism," he said.

Ashutosh insisted that "everything within the parameters of the Constitution", including the issue of nationalism, must be debated in a democratic set-up.

"What kind of democratic society are we living in? Let's debate each and everything which is within the parameter of the Constitution. Nationalism has to be debated," he added.

Ending an over two-month-long deadlock, PDP and BJP are set to jointly call on J-K Governor NN Vohra tomorrow to stake claim to forming the new government in the state.
