GUWAHATI: BJP is expected to sound poll bugle for 2021 assembly polls in Assam, party president JP Nadda will address the first virtual rally of the party in Assam on June 18.

The party will hold similar rallies in Dibrugarh and Silchar.

State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass said, “Party president will address party workers and people on June 18. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and convenor of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Himanta Biswa Sarma will also address the rally.”


Ruling BJP in Assam has initiated a mass contact programme with both level workers digitally. Around 26,000 booth committees of the BJP in Assam have formed at least two WhatsApp groups each.

The party has also started a house-to-house contact programme. Teams comprising two cadres each visits voters at their homes and distribute booklets highlighting the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government in the Centre and the Sarbananda Sonowal-led State government.

BJP has 61 MLAs while its allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) had won 14 and 12 seats respectively in assembly polls in 2016.

In 2016 assembly polls All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) just won 13 seats. Congress had 25 MLAs in 2016, later one resigned from congress and contested from BJP and won.
