In Tripura a third of the 60 assembly seats are reserved for tribals.

“CPI (M) has strong base in the tribal areas and has in the past swept the tribal dominated seats. For coming to power in the state, we have to do well in tribal areas,” a BJP leader added.

Debbarma said, “We had a meeting with party leaders on Sunday last to take their views on electoral alliance.”

The IPFT is demanding a separate Tipraland. BJP has however ruled out any bifurcation of the state.
