BJP president Amit Shah to announce new team on August 17; young faces to get prominent roles

NEW DELHI: BJP's new president Amit Shah is likely to announce a new team for the party on August 17th, reported ET Now. According to ET Now, the new team is likely to consist of relatively 'young' people who will spearhead the party's new strategy.

"The new team is expected to be announced during the second half of August 17. The new team will assist Amit Shah," the channel said. ET Now sources said Anurag Thakur, who is currently an MP from Himachal Pradesh, is likely to be inducted and given a significant role. "Thakur may be given the role of General Secretary in the party. JP Nadda, who is currently the General Secretary is likely to be eased into the government," ET Now said.

Poonam Mahajan, the daughter of BJP heavyweight Pramod Mahajan and a first time MP from Mumbai, may be given a prominent role in the party, the channel said. Apart from that, Saroj Pandey, BJP Mahila Morcha's President may also be given a good role in the party.

The announcement of the new team assumes significance in light of several upcoming state-level elections. Amit Shah, who delivered crucial Uttar Pradesh to BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, was on July 9 appointed party president.

Shah, a close and controversial aide of Modi, was appointed to the top post in BJP at a meeting of Parliamentary Board where incumbent Rajnath Singh resigned after a tenure of one-and-a-half years.

The former Minister of State for Home in Gujarat is largely credited for BJP's stunning performance in UP where it got 71 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats.
