BJP outreach to youth on Modi’s birthday, his 25 years of public service

New Delhi: Pushed on the backfoot by the Jantar Mantar protest by Gen Z which targeted the Prime Minister and the NDA dispensation, BJP has planned an ambitious one month long outreach program from Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17 to educate the youth about his public service in the last quarter century starting with his tenure as Gujarat chief minister. Though the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan will also engage women, poor and the farmers, the primary focus is on the young with most of the events around them.

BJP President Nitin Nabin declared on Wednesday that the party will celebrate not only Modi’s 76^th birthday on September 17 but also mark his contribution to public service in the last 25 years from October 7, 2001, when he became chief minister of Gujarat to the present. The highlight of this month-long program will be two simultaneous 20-day yatras- one from Modi’s birthplace Vadnagar in Gujarat to his constituency Varanasi and the other starting from Varanasi and culminating at Vadnagar. To be organised by the BJP Yuva Morcha, these two yatras starting on September 17, will take different routes and cover 10 states.

“This journey will be carried out in 10 different groups led by the youth. Each group will have 50 youth and the aim is to organise five to seven programs each day along the route,” Nabin told reporters in his maiden press conference at the party headquarters here. The yatras will start and end with prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi and the Hatkeshwar Mahadev temple in Vadnagar.

Nabin stated that the youth involved in these two yatras will inform people in village chaupals, Aanganwadi centers for women, and youth clubs about the achievements and welfare initiatives of the Narendra Modi government. The party is targeting involvement of over 20,000 youth in these yatras.

“They will also take feedback from the people, engage with them and discuss the government's achievements,” he said.

Since the July protests, Modi has made a concerted effort to engage with the youth, including Instagram messages, a speech at Shree Ram College of Commerce here, and a program comprising mostly young people at Vadodara on Tuesday.

Apart from the two yatras, the events will include a program called “Seva: Mera Yogdan” in which the young will be involved in work around 25 different themes. Every individual involved will have to do at least 25 minutes of voluntary labour.

There will also be an outreach to the youth- including students, young professionals, those running start-ups and corporate innovators- as a part of this month long program. Termed “Seva-First- Innovation Challenge”, this initiative will engage educational institutions, start-up networks and incubation centres and BJP state units will be roped in to organize innovation challenges.

Other programs include Viksit Bharat Sankalp Prastav in which public representatives who have done commendable work at the grassroots level will be felicitated. On Modi’s birthday, blood donation camps will be organised across the country, while on October 2 cleanliness programs under Swachh Bharat will be held.

BJP will express its gratitude to Modi on October 7 for his contribution to public service in the last 25 years. “Seva Jyoti Kalash Yatra- Resolve of Viksit Bharat” will celebrate the occasion through padyatras, bike and cycle rallies. At about 1,000 places, including BJP district headquarters, a resolution on “Viksit Bharat 2047” will be taken.

The party will also hold street plays, painting competitions for students, lighting of lamps, outreach to Aanganwadi workers and welfare scheme beneficiaries.

“Youth have become job givers and not just job seekers, and daughters have moved from being beneficiaries to leadership roles,” Nabin said.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the Satya Niketan incident, the BJP Chief assured all students that the Delhi government will deal with a holistic approach to the problems faced by Paying Guest students who have left their homes and come to Delhi for better prospects.
