BJP objects to Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker campaigning for Congress candidates

Opposition BJP today said he cannot behave like an ordinary party worker as he occupies a Constitutional post.

DEHRADUN: Taking exception to Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal's campaigning in favour of Congress candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, Opposition BJP today said he cannot behave like an ordinary party worker as he occupies a Constitutional post.

"The way Kunjwal is openly campaigning for Congress nominees does not behove of his post. He should not forget that he is the Speaker of Uttarakhand Assembly, a Constitutional post of dignity where he is supposed to be objective towards all political parties," State BJP chief Tirath Singh Rawat said in a statement here.

Asking Kunjwal to resign from the state Assembly if he wanted to drum up support for Congress candidates like an ordinary party worker, he said the party will lodge a complaint with the Election Commission against the Assembly Speaker.

"After all how can Kunjwal forget the dignity of his Constitutional post and behave like and ordinary Congress worker?" he asked.
